Healo

Connecting users to premium health care services 

Project Overview

The Problem

Health Assistants in Africa find it difficult to effectively handle all healthcare needs.

The Product

Healo is a medical business firm in Lagos. They provide medical-tech inclusive products for their clients. They are looking for a way to boost the health assistant services in West Africa.

My Role

UX designer leading the app from conception to delivery.

The Goal

Design an Health Assistant app helps patients easily book health practitioner services

Project duration

September 2022 to October 2022

Responsibilities

Conducting interviews, paper and digital wireframing, low and high-fidelity prototyping, conducting usability studies, accounting for accessibility, iterating on designs, determining information architecture, and responsive design.

Understanding the user

I conducted a brainstorming session on how to go about the design process. I put myself in the shoes of the user and thought up possible problems and solutions that could make the app experience better. With this in mind I generated a hypothesis statement which outlines the business goals, user goals and all possible features.

Project Overview

Starting off, I took a user-centered design approach that proved to be quite effective in my design efforts. I conducted secondary user research, by checking comment sections of the few available online medical apps, to understand the users I’m designing for and their needs. I discovered that many target users found the apps not to be accessible enough for their use. Many also did not offer the available features the users needed.

Meet The Users

Aisha

Aisha is a data analyst who works from home during the week but need a way to start leading an healthy lifestyle by having appointments online.

Dotun

Dotun is an head of accounts who works 5 times a week who needs an easy way to book doctor's appointments on weekends.

Competitive Audit

In order to determine what gaps were available for Healo to take advantage of, I had to audit the apps of few competitor’s app to see what they were doing right and wrong. I evaluated several features and processes deemed vital and identified which ones Healo would capitalize on to have an edge over it’s competitors.

As the initial design phase continued, I made sure to base screen designs on feedback and findings from  the user research.

Refined Features

1. Search and Location

  • I designed an intuitive Search Bar into the homepage which is easily located on the top of the screen.

  • The App also has an inbuilt GPS which helps to locate and show distance users and registered Healo doctors and centers in their proximity.

  • The homepage also has a Manual Search Option for users to use to search for specific attributes they need in their Healo doctor.

2. One Touch Action

  • Healo helps users to reach their destination in the shortest period of clicks. The app offers One Touch Chat - which takes users directly to the chat page and One Touch Schedule - which instantly begins the scheduling process for users.

3. Details, Review & Appointment

  • A detailed doctor’s page is provided which contains all the necessary Information about Healo doctors and also call-to-actions to engage with the doctor. Users also have access to previous Patient Reviews and Comments.

  • The appointment page offers Visit Type, available Appointment Time, Appointment Type and Appointment Reason. Users can also save time for Recurring appointments.

  • Reviews and Comments can be filtered either by Ratings or by Order of Time

4. Payment

  • The app offers an Appointment Preview page for users to check through their appointment details one more time before paying. Users can also choose to Cancel Appointment.

  • Users can choose between 2 payment options - Card or Insurance. Both payment methods can be filled first time and Saved for use later.

  • Healo notifies users of their Appointment Confirmation with an Invoice of their payment.

5. Communication

  • Healo is an all inclusive app as Users can choose either have an Instant Chat with the doctors or schedule a Video Call appointment.

Other Features

  • Appointment

  • The App offers an Appointment page for users to be able to track their appointments - either Scheduled or Completed.

  • Healo users also have the ability to Cancel appointments or Reschedule them if the need arises.

  • Messages

  • The app gives users control over their communication by providing a Messages page where they can monitor Appointment conversations with Healo doctors. They can also receive System messages directly, from Healo, into their inbox.

  • Profile and More 

  • For extensive inclusivity and accessible, Healo grants its users control over their Information while ensuring privacy. With the More page, Users can tune their Settings, read About Healo’s Privacy Policy and FAQs and also check Contact Details.

  • Users are also able to Logout of the platform or permanently Delete their accounts.

  • The Profile section serves as a Personal database where users can provide all necessary information for a smoother experience. They can edit their Personal Details and provide their current Health Vitals.

  • Healo also allows users to be able to upload important Medical Documents and Insurance details

New Features

  • Laboratories

  • Healo uses inbuilt GPS which helps its users locate Laboratories closest to them either by Locating them or Manual Search.

  • The app can also be used to quickly locate Blood Banks and Emergency Response centers closest to users.

High Fidelity Prototype

Style Guide

Using different shades of the Noxious, Healo portrays itself, as an optimistic and relaxed platform while it serves its users. I chose to use colors sparingly throughout the app to reduce color noise, show which elements were interactable and should be paid attention to within the product. The main typefaces of choice for the app is Montserrat, Work Sans and Poppins. This played the pivotal role of matching the with the colors to create a serene backstory which is Healo

The app makes users feel like they have all their medical itinerary they could have need packed in one place.

What I learned

What I learned while designing the Healo app is that, you are never truly done with your design no matter how long you spent working on it. There will always be changes that need to be made and feedbacks that need to be addressed.
